I think the family should have to pay for all the money spent on this hoax and do community service. That will give them something to keep them occupied.

It appears that they could be in deep doo doo. Let's hope they throw the book at them and not let them off easy. The Federal offenses could be very
interesting. They did have to stop air traffic in Denver for a while. I fell for it, but did think it was odd that the Dad wasn't out there with someone
tracking the balloon. If I thought my kid was in it, I sure would have been out there, at least to be around when it came down. Now we know why he
wasn't. I hate to think of what those kids will be like grown up. Yikes!

I thought, right from the beginning, that it was all a set-up. It's a rotten thing to do to all of the people involved in the search.
Not to mention what it's doing to the kids. These people are worse than pathetic!

Mom admits to "Balloon Boy" hoax | ||
|
DENVER (Reuters) - The mother of a Colorado boy thought to be aboard a homemade helium balloon has admitted to investigators the whole thing was a hoax, according to a court document made public on Friday. The local sheriff had already said the October 15 "Balloon Boy" incident was a publicity stunt and expected felony charges to be filed against the 6-year-old boy's parents, Richard and Mayumi Heene. The live television images of the silver saucer-like balloon soaring through the Colorado skies captivated audiences until the boy turned up in the family's attic. Public sympathy turned to outrage when the family's account began to unravel. According to a copy of a search warrant affidavit posted on the website of Fort Collins newspaper "The Coloradoan," Mayumi told investigators she and her husband lied to authorities and knew their son Falcon was at home as rescue teams tracked the balloon believing the boy was inside. "The motive for the fabricated story was to make the Heene family more marketable for future media interest," the affidavit states. The document also says the Heenes, who had starred in the reality television show "Wife Swap," had devised the hoax about two weeks before and had
instructed their three children to lie to authorities and the media.

These two so-called parents are disgusting. They should have to pay back whatever it cost to chase down the balloon, and have the
children removed from their custody. They're both a couple of whack jobs.

If they don't have to do jail time, they will probably just file bankruptcy and get out of paying anything. Shameful bunch. It's so not fun being
duped. At least for a day, we didn't hear about politics.

I wonder if this story will make fans of reality shows everywhere to stop and think whether such shows lead to social good in any corner of the world.
Probably not, but still wondering anyhow. |

I can't imagine what would make parents use kids like this? It goes on so much and it's horrible, imo. I was worried sick at first when this story
first broke. The secretary in dh's office was so upset about the missing boy and thinking what could have happened to him she literally made herself sick.
Man hours were spent on this, people were upset, and all the while they knew that their little boy was safe and sound. All for publicity. People like that
shouldn't be allowed to have children!
