What bothered me the most about that scene with Lilian and Phillip was the gratuitous way in which she was being unnecessarily garrulous or even plain chatty about some poor patient whose life was in mortal turmoil. She had a little smile playing on her lips, and she was being chatty about something as serious as it was.

She didn't mention any names, this is true - but, this is a small town, and she gave out enough details about the patient (terminal illness, has only three months to live, etc.) that any resident of Springfield ought to be able to connect the dots.

Anyway, I guess I am too used to working in an atmosphere where we (even those of us who are in research, not in direct clinical contact with any patient) are repeatedly told that we are not to give out any information about any patient unless it is under a direct court order from specific legal authorities. As a result, an atmosphere exists where a scene like that will never play out. May be that is why I am overly sensitive about this.
