A case of breaking and entering |

Yesterday, I left my house around 1:00 and made sure that all the doors and windows were closed. I got home around 5:30 and was talking to a friend on the
phone while I was on the computer. I kept hearing paper moving around in the livingroom. I figured my two kitties were playing in a box by the balcony door.
I always put in sheets of the paper wrap that they use in stores b/c Nina likes it. I glanced out and saw Maya sitting on the bench which is over the box.
The noise went on and on. I went out and walked up to Maya and saw a squirrel's tail sticking up under the bench. Hung up the phone, ran and closed all
the doors, put Maya into a room with a closed door, opened the glass sliding door, pulled away the drapes, lined up a few items beside the bench so that the
squirrel wouldn't dart out at me, opened the screen door and got a broom. The squirrel was sitting on the bottom shelf of the end table, so I put the
broom to one side of it and it practically flew out of the condo, up the wall, and must have run for its life along the roof. Today I noticed that a hole had
been chewed through the screen door. So, I'm guessing that it had come into the condo and got closed in when I left.
If you see this suspect, be careful!

I wouldn't have been too happy! Squirrels can be pretty nasty. I had two get into my basement bedroom, years ago, through the
fireplace. They actually growled at me. I'd never heard a squirrel growl before.
Pesky little critters, aren't they? I'm glad they didn't hurt your kitties! |

LOL! What a cute pic!
I have squirrels in my back yard. They love my pecan tree. I am so happy I have them. My dad calls them "tree rats" and dislikes them because they eat bird seed. I feel like squirrels and birds in the back yard are "cat tv" for my kitties. |

It was such a shock because when I looked under the bench, I expected to see Nina's skinny little grey cat's tail. But instead there was a
squirrel's tail! I kept thinking that squirrel's have sharp teeth, but wasn't really scared. It was a young squirrel, pretty small. It didn't
make any of those awful noises that they sometimes make when they're trying to get to my birdfeeders, but I'm on the balcony. I've given up
fighting them on that.
BTW, last night Maya ran from the balcony window to a side window that faces the balcony. She kept meowing. I looked out and there was a night time visitor -- a little flying squirrel. |

Cool! I have never seen a flying squirrel in the wild!
I have never seen a squirrel be anything except funny and cute. The only time I have heard them make any noise is when they are doing their funny mating dance in my pecan tree. They do a funny chirp. It is loud! I love them because they are cute! I did buy a bird feeder with a cage around it, but that was to keep out the pigeons. They upgraded a freeway near our house and with that came a lot of pigeons. They drain the bird feeder in one day vs. two weeks. I got tired of filling it. A baby squirrel did get in there once. He spent so much time in there we thought he was trapped but when we went out to free him, he got out easily. |

When I used to live in a trailer park, about fifteen years ago, I was visisted by the cutest squirrel on a regular basis. My boyfreind
named it Buddy, even though we didn't know if it was make or female. He would climb up on the railing and "knock" on my front door. It drove my
cat crazy, but it was such fun for me! I would sit on the steps and feed him some nuts. I used to have a picture of him taking one right off my foot.

We cut down some trees Saturday and their was an opossum in one of them. He came running out of the trunk.
And once we were burning a brush pile and a skunk ran out. I was REALLY hoping he would go the opposite direction. LOL

Maya and Nina are about the same age, probably only a couple months apart at the most. However, Maya weighs 10 1/2 lbs. and Nina weighs 6 1/2. Maya has a big
advantage there!

Okay I got ya! I was thinking that Maya might be younger she might engage the squirrel .
Yes the weight most likely is a factor! Your kitties are adorable! Guiding Light Central ![]()

Thanks! A squirrel is out on the balcony taking a nap right now. Since it's in the mid-90's I don't want to disturb it. They must think of me as
the food lady because a few of them run up to the balcony door when they see me.
Here's a picture of Nina taken this past Christmas:
