I used to prefer having packages delivered by UPS over the post office, but now, I'm not so sure. Neither is reliable. UPS used to just dropped it off at the door, which is okay with me. I'm still wondering where my June Southern Living is. I'm sure that we've had a substitute mailman and it's hard to say whose mailbox it was put into.

In my neighborhood, they ring the doorbell drop the package on my front steps and are in the truck and around the corner before I even get to the door. They don't make you sign for anything anymore. They just stop, drop and step on the gas!

I just had to reply to this topic. We also live in the stix and our FedEx and UPS drivers are great. But my sis lives in a small town in AZ and for the last year, everything I've sent her has been totally trashed. The last package I had packed by the UPS office and it was in a box, inside another box and I can't imagine how they broke it, but they did. Oh, I hate it when there's a substiture! They do everything so haphazardly! We really like our regular carrier and he loves to come to the house and see our cats. We all miss him when he's on vacation!

Our USPS carrier is pretty good. I rarely get anyone else's mail and my packages are delivered to my dad's house, so as long as he is home I get them. There have been a couple of times when there was a sub and they put my mail in my brother's box and vice versa. Our mailboxes are right next to each other, so that is somewhat understandable.

Our regular mailman is really good, but the substitutes are horrible. I know things are sorted by machine, but the substitutes always put mail for "Jones" into my mailbox "Johns". I don't know what the explanation is for that since the apt. numbers are different. That neighbor just moved, so I hope that eliminates the confusion. Whoever delivered the mail yesterday jammed two cards and a thin newspaper flyer into the mailbox bending the cards. Those problems don't...

As a postal worker, I can explain some of the misplaced mail. Most mail is sorted by high-speed machines. It tuns throguh several in each postal facility that it goes to. Once of the first machines reads the address, then sprays a bar code on it. It goes to the next where it sorted by zip, then to another where it's sorted into "walk sequence" for the carrier. With hubby working for HP now and officing at home (though he is traveling most of the time), they regularly send him stuff FedEx and I get lots of deliveries from UPS. I have made an effort to get to know them and they have been great. I feel for you living in a condo because you are at their mercy unless the office is willing to accept boxes and most don't even do that for you. The FedEx guy is especially nice as he always knocks at least twice.

I also live in the sticks and we used to have a UPS guy named Frank. He was great. He would leave our packages out of sight, but where we would find them.

Now they leave packages outside my basement door which is okay if it is not supposed to rain. Packages left there are out of sight unless someone pulls into my driveway. Boy I am lucky, at least with UPS if not FedX. I live in the sticks. My UPS guy is named Craig, lol. He's awesome! He brings stuff into the garage. We all know him, his name, his marital status, his kids names and he knows us. I know it's not all like that, for sure, I just went with it with my step-daughter and a gift I had sent. I hate them. When I was going through the fertility thing, I had drugs delivered to me that were $1200 and had to be refrigerated. They left them on the porch without even knocking! If someone had taken them, it would have been a DISASTER.

Well, I guess I have to hang the signed UPS slip on the door and tell them to leave the package, even though I won't be home! I hate having to do that. I want to find the phone number for the local UPS and complain to the manager.

I've had the same problem with UPS. And, with FedEx. I was waiting for a package from H-P that was supposed to be one-day shipping. I was sitting in my living room with the windows open and never even heard a truck approach, let alone someone ringing my bell. I feel your pain. Customer service seems to be a thing of the past.

I just got back from KMart where I waited in line 30 minutes. If I didn't have really good buys in my basket, I would have walked out.
